OK, this is becoming something like a tradition, somehow. Somebody gets me a tech gadget, it's shiny, sounds great, it turns out to be one of those annoying Sony propietary pieces of junk that only one vendor supports... Sony itself. I bought one of those 'MP3 supporting!' minidisc players (yes, I know) and now my father got a MicroMV cammera.
That is, only Sony very own (and craptastic) Movie Shaker app recognizes it, that is. When it doesn't crash horribly. According to this link the dammed thing is as non-standard as possible, so only a small bunch of programs recognize the stream, the camera, or anything like it.
OK, as far as I know, the only way of getting to use a decent way of working with the videos we have is opening the movieshaker thinguie, that converts the videos to MPEG-2 streams. From them, I have to convert them into MiniDV, and then, use a decent program to edit them. Considering that the camera costs over 1000 Euros here, I am quite pissed... Mainly because for my video editing skills and needs, Movie Maker was just what I needed, dammit, and getting the videos to it is a friggin pain in the ass.
And of course, try to explain to my dad that the very expensive toy he got in fact is not really that good...
